Ultherapy, or nonsurgical skin tightening, is a procedure that delivers the results of a facelift without the surgery and downtime. The skin will appear younger-looking, tighter and lifted. While the results may not be as dramatic as a surgical facelift, ultherapy provides outstanding outcomes for patients who wish to treat wrinkles and lines on the eyebrows, neck, and chin, as well as along the chest area. With this procedure, ultrasound energy is used to penetrate layers of the skin that was only previously reached through cosmetic surgery. In addition, collagen is stimulated by the deliverance of ultrasound energy down into the skin’s foundational layer.
This advanced, highly-effective treatment is performed at all of Dermatology and Skin Cancer Surgery Center's North Texas offices. Patients can schedule a consultation with Dr. Matthew Barrows and his team of dermatologists and medical professionals at the location closest to them: Allen, Rockwall, McKinney, Dallas, Greenville, and Gainesville.
What to Expect@headingTag>
Before Ultherapy is performed, the treatment area is thoroughly cleansed. The doctor will apply an ultrasound gel onto the skin and then place the handheld applicator onto the patient’s skin. Using ultrasound imaging, the doctor will be able to see deep within the skin to pinpoint the correct positioning for energy to be delivered. The ultrasound energy will be delivered underneath the surface of the skin. A patient can expect to feel small bits of energy delivered into various depths of the skin. Some people may feel a prickling sensation, so a doctor may suggest taking a pain reliever or similar medication prior to treatment. The procedure can take anywhere from 30-90 minutes.

Since Ultherapy is noninvasive, there is no downtime associated with the treatment. A patient will be able to return to day-to-day activities immediately. After the procedure, a patient’s skin may look flushed but this should subside within a few hours. Some patients report tenderness, slight swelling or a tingling feeling, but these symptoms typically go away in a few days. Right after the procedure, patients usually see a slight improvement in appearance. Within 2-3 months, most patients see a dramatic difference since the body has started to naturally regenerate collagen. Since Ultherapy isn’t a surgery, patients need to realize that results won’t be comparable to those of cosmetic surgery.

Ultherapy is a good option for patients who aren’t willing are able to go under the knife for cosmetic surgery. This procedure is also ideal for people who are looking for a quick procedure with no downtime. It is also significantly cheaper than a classic facelift. Our dermatology office recommends this treatment for individuals whose skin is mildly to moderately loose. Patients with slight to moderate loose skin around the neck, a sagging or double chin, a sagging eyebrow line, or lines and wrinkles in the chest area might be good candidates for this procedure. For more information, we invite you to call our dermatology office and schedule a consultation with one of our experienced dermatologists.
