PRP THERAPY

Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is an extract of your own blood that contains three to five times more platelets, growth factors, and active proteins for tissue and injury healing. PRP therapy can help to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, tighten and tone the skin, produce collagen and improve volume loss. The medical professionals at Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center and RejuvedermMD perform PRP therapy for their patients who need facial rejuvenation but are not ready for surgery. One of the biggest benefits of PRP therapy is that since it is made from the patient’s own blood, there is no possibility of side effects or adverse reactions. Patients can learn more by scheduling a consultation.

Patients can add SkinPen® microneedling to their PRP Therapy treatment to improve wrinkles and scars. While it does not produce the same results as a surgical facelift, the PRP therapy helps the skin heal after the microneedling procedure.

What to expect

Originally used in orthopedic medicine, reconstructive surgery, and dentistry, the principles of PRP therapy have been applied in dermatology for skin rejuvenation. A small amount of blood is drawn from the patient and then spun in a special centrifuge until the stem cells, platelets, and growth factors are concentrated, turning it into platelet rich plasma (PRP). The prepared PRP stimulates collagen growth for facial rejuvenation to help improve wrinkles and puffiness under the eyes, as well as enhancing the overall skin tone, texture, and elasticity.

The prepared platelets rich plasma (PRP) is injected into the skin or scalp or applied topically to the skin during your SkinPen® procedure. After your procedure you may have swelling, redness and bruising. For better results, patients can repeat treatment every 4-6 weeks.
