Lydia Essary, MD


Dr. Lydia Essary is a board-certified Dermatopathologist who practices general dermatology, dermatopathology and Mohs surgery. She specializes in general dermatology as well as skin cancer diagnosis, prevention and treatment. Because of her level of expertise, Dr. Essary is often invited to speak at national and international medical events and is actively involved in the leadership of the American Society of Dermatopathology, where she serves in several committees. With a strong dermatopathology background and commitment to serving her patients, she is able to provide diagnostic and consultative pathology services.


Dr. Essary is a physician and surgeon (M.D.) graduate from the Cayetano Heredia University School of Medicine in Lima, Peru, and speaks fluent Spanish. She went on to complete her residency at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN and her fellowship in Dermatopathology at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas where she now serves as Clinical Assistant Professor of Dermatology. Following her fellowship, she trained in Mohs Surgery at the Associates in Dermatology, Orlando.  Dr. Essary also earned a Master of Science in Health Management, University of Texas in Dallas.

In her spare time, Dr. Essary enjoys training young physicians in dermatopathology and sharing her wealth of knowledge with dermatology residents, fellows and medical students. When she’s not working in dermatology, she enjoys spending time with her family and the fine arts, as she is a highly regarded classically-trained pianist and Argentine Tango Instructor.
