If you spend your summers soaking up the sun or have ever gotten a sunburn, it might be in your best interest to visit a skin cancer treatment center. Skin cancer is the most common cancer in the United States and worldwide, according to the Skin Cancer Foundation. In the U.S., more than 9,500 people are diagnosed with skin cancer every day. Whether you tan easily or tend to burn, every person with sun exposure is at risk for skin cancer. This is why it is important to visit a dermatology provider to get checked for signs of skin cancer.
At Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center, we offer several treatment options for patients diagnosed with skin cancer. At our skin cancer treatment center locations across Texas, we offer several treatment options including Mohs micrographic surgery, topical chemotherapy, superficial radiation therapy, and many other services. We also have an in-house dermatopathologist to help us diagnose skin cancers even faster.
Mohs Micrographic Surgery
Dr. Barrows is a board-certified dermatologist that specializes in skin cancer detection and treatment. He is an expert in performing Mohs micrographic surgery, which removes cancerous lesions from the skin. Mohs is most common for treating basal cell carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma. During the procedure, the patient will not feel any pain but may experience some mild discomfort. Mohs micrographic surgery is a very detailed process and requires a highly trained surgeon at our skin cancer treatment center.
Superficial Radiation Therapy
Superficial Radiation Therapy, also known as SRT, is a painless and highly successful nonsurgical skin cancer treatment. This option is a completely non-invasive treatment for non-melanoma skin cancer, with a 95 percent proven cure rate. SRT safely destroys skin cancer cells without damaging surrounding tissue – which means no bleeding, pain, downtime, scarring, or lifestyle restrictions following the surgery. Schedule an appointment with one of our providers to see if SRT is right for you.
In-house Dermatopathologist
At our practice, we have an in-house board-certified dermatopathologist in our skin cancer treatment center that helps us diagnose skin cancers faster. Dr. Heather Froehlich, MD is expertly trained and works alongside our providers to diagnose all types of skin conditions. When it comes to skin cancer, timing is extremely important. For example, when detected early, the 5-year survival rate for melanoma is 99 percent. This is why timeliness and regular skin cancer checks are essential to our patients’ health.
