Why You Should See a Microneedling Specialist

Are you looking to improve your appearance with younger, fresher-looking skin without an invasive procedure or injections? If this sounds like you, then you absolutely need to see a microneedling specialist! Microneedling is a minimally invasive procedure that can improve skin tone and texture, as well as soften the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

At Dermatology & Skin Cancer Surgery Center, we use the SkinPen® and the Pixel8-RF to perform microneedling. This technology is highly advanced and can produce immediate improvements in our patient’s appearance. The SkinPen rejuvenates skin without using heat or chemicals, and the Pixel 8 RF microneedling device provides precise and controlled coagulation and hemostasis deep within the dermis. The depth of both devices is customized to each area of the face. Keep reading to see if microneedling is right for you!

How Microneedling Works

Microneedling is a rapid process with little downtime that is safe for all skin types, even sensitive skin! At DSCSC, your microneedling specialist will apply a topical numbing cream to the treatment area. A sterile cartridge-tip with micro-needles will be attached to our handheld SkinPen® or Pixel8 RF device, and your specialist will gently press or glide the device across the skin. This process has been described as comparable to a sandpaper-like sensation on the skin, resulting in tiny microchannels that will close almost immediately, triggering a healing response. This healing response results in renewed skin and new collagen and elastin, which has the following benefits:

  • Soften the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles
  • Clearing acne and acne scars
  • Diminishing traumatic scars and stretchmarks
  • Continued improvement for up to six months following initial treatment

What to Expect Post-Procedure

Immediately after your microneedling specialist completes your treatment, the treated area might appear bright red, similar to a sunburn. The duration of the redness varies depending on the patient’s skin, the number of passes performed on the treatment area, and the area treated and can last anywhere from a day up to a week. Our staff will help you determine the best products to use post-procedure to promote healing, especially since microneedling allows improved absorption of products such as Vitamin C or hyaluronic serums.

Following the procedure, the patient can expect to see improvement in the skin’s color, tone, and texture!
