LASER SKIN RESURFACING

Laser skin resurfacing, sometimes called laser peel, is a safe and effective cosmetic procedure that uses laser technology to help reduce the signs of aging, sun damage, acne scars, and other imperfections with the texture of the skin treatments. Laser resurfacing can stimulate collagen and new skin cells under the surface of the skin to reveal smoother, healthier-looking skin.

Laser variations

The depth and aggression of laser skin resurfacing depends on the patient’s desired outcome, overall goals, and available down time.  The cost of cosmetic laser skin resurfacing varies depending on the type of laser being used. RejuvedermMD offers two options for laser skin resurfacing.

Icon™ 1540 laser – This laser performs non-ablative fractional resurfacing using pin point compression. Its unique lens design allows for a greater depth of penetration. This laser option allows for less down time and may require more than one treatment.

Erbium laser – This laser is designed to remove surface-level and moderately deep lines and wrinkles on the face, hands, neck or chest.

How it works

During laser skin resurfacing, brief pulsating beams of light are aimed at the damaged skin. The laser will ultimately destroy the unwanted skin layer by layer. The depth depends on the patient’s particular condition and needs. The skin rejuvenation laser removes the outer layer of skin while heating the layer underneath, which stimulates the growth of collagen. Once the damaged layers of the skin are targeted, they will begin a process of sloughing away and over time will reveal new skin that appears healthier, brighter and tighter. 

What to expect

To ease any discomfort during your laser skin resurfacing procedure, the provider may choose to numb the skin with a topical numbing agent. After the procedure, the treated skin may appear darker, swollen, itchy and red. During the recovery process the treated area will need to be kept clean and protected. Crusting can also occur after a laser resurfacing treatment. The patient should refrain from picking as this can lead to permanent scarring. Please follow post treatment instructions given by your provider. New skin is revealed in 1-2 weeks following your procedure.
